Hij was nog niet uitgesproken of er kwam een leider van de synagoge naar hen toe die voor Jezus neerviel en zei: ‘Mijn dochter is zojuist gestorven. Kom alstublieft en leg haar de hand op, dan zal ze weer leven.’ Jezus stond op en volgde hem met zijn leerlingen. Plotseling naderde hen van achteren een vrouw die al twaalf jaar aan bloedverlies leed. Ze raakte de zoom van zijn bovenkleed aan, want ze dacht: Als ik alleen zijn bovenkleed maar kan aanraken, zal ik al genezen worden. Jezus draaide zich om, en bij het zien van de vrouw zei hij: ‘Wees gerust, uw geloof heeft u gered.’ En vanaf dat moment was de vrouw genezen.
Toen Jezus bij het huis van de leider van de synagoge aankwam en er de fluitspelers en de luid weeklagende menigte zag, zei hij: ‘Ga naar huis, het meisje is immers niet gestorven, ze slaapt.’ Men lachte smalend. Nadat iedereen was weggestuurd, ging hij naar binnen. Hij pakte het meisje bij de hand, en ze stond op. Het verhaal hierover verspreidde zich in de hele omgeving.

De jaren die komen, het nieuwe, het onbekende,
dat we verlangen en vrezen,
de mens die we hopen te worden: zegen dat alles. God,
dat we het huis van onze toekomst bouwen op de rots.
De lezing van vandaag is genomen uit het Evangelie volgens Matteüs, hoofdstuk 9 vanaf vers 18.
Het lijkt dringend wanneer de leider van de synagoge en de vrouw die al twaalf jaar leed ‘plots’ Jezus’ pad kruisen. Bij het eerste aanvoelen zou je denken dat iemand wiens dochter net gestorven is en een vrouw die al twaalf jaar lijdt, zouden berusten in het ergste. Toch lijkt de verschijning van Jezus hen hoop te hebben gegeven in hun hopeloze situatie. Kun je je voorstellen wat hen het geloof en de hoop heeft gegeven opdat ze Jezus durfden te vragen om genezing?
Indien je toch het vertrouwen zou hebben van de leider van de synagoge en de vrouw die Jezus’ mantel aanraakte, waar zou je dan om vragen?
Beluister dit verhaal opnieuw en bekijk met welke van de twee figuren je je het meest vereenzelvigt. En stel je je het verhaal voor vanuit hun standpunt.
Is er iets in je eigen leven waarvoor je graag een genezer zou willen benaderen? Vraag om gelijk welke genezing die nodig is in je leven.
