Een van de farizeeën nodigde Jezus uit voor de maaltijd, en toen Hij het huis van de farizeeër was binnengegaan, ging Hij aan tafel aanliggen. Een vrouw die in de stad bekendstond als zondares had gehoord dat Hij bij de farizeeër thuis zou eten, en ze ging naar het huis met een albasten flesje met geurige olie. Ze ging achter Jezus staan, aan het voeteneinde van het aanligbed; ze huilde en zijn voeten werden nat door haar tranen. Ze droogde ze met haar haar, kuste ze en wreef ze in met de olie. Toen de farizeeër die Hem had uitgenodigd dit zag, zei hij bij zichzelf: Als Hij een profeet was, zou Hij weten wie de vrouw is die Hem aanraakt, dat ze een zondares is. Maar Jezus zei tegen hem: ‘Simon, Ik heb je iets te zeggen.’ ‘Meester, spreek!’ zei hij. ‘Er was eens een geldschieter die twee schuldenaars had: de een was hem vijfhonderd denarie schuldig, de ander vijftig. Omdat ze het geld niet konden terugbetalen, schold hij beiden hun schuld kwijt. Wie van de twee zal hem de meeste liefde betonen?’ Simon antwoordde: ‘Ik veronderstel degene aan wie hij het grootste bedrag heeft kwijtgescholden.’ Hij zei tegen hem: ‘Dat is juist geoordeeld.’ Toen draaide Hij zich om naar de vrouw en vroeg aan Simon: ‘Zie je deze vrouw? Ik ben in jouw huis te gast, en je hebt Me geen water voor mijn voeten gegeven; maar zij heeft met haar tranen mijn voeten natgemaakt en ze met haar haar afgedroogd. Je hebt Me niet begroet met een kus; maar zij heeft, sinds Ik hier binnenkwam, onophoudelijk mijn voeten gekust. Je hebt mijn hoofd niet met olie ingewreven; maar zij heeft met geurige olie mijn voeten ingewreven. Daarom zeg Ik je: haar zonden zijn haar vergeven, al waren het er vele, want ze heeft veel liefde betoond; maar wie weinig wordt vergeven, betoont ook weinig liefde.’ Toen zei Hij tegen haar: ‘Uw zonden zijn u vergeven.’ Zijn tafelgenoten dachten bij zichzelf: Wie is Hij, dat Hij zelfs zonden vergeeft? Hij zei tegen de vrouw: ‘Uw geloof heeft u gered; ga in vrede.’

We hebben er allemaal nood aan om, temidden van dagelijkse bezigheden,
wat tijd vrij te maken. We weten dat ons lichaam rust nodig heeft.
We komen in uw aanwezigheid, Heer, ons hart en ons verstand zijn herbrond,
onze geest opgebeurd.
De lezing van vandaag is genomen uit het Evangelie volgens Lucas, hoofdstuk 7, vanaf vers 36.
‘Haar zonden zijn haar vergeven, al waren het er vele.’ Beeld je deze woorden in, alsof het over jou gezegd werd. Hoe voel jij je daarbij? Herken jij jezelf in deze beschrijving?
Jezus schildert hier een tafereel van een rechtgeaard man - of een eigengereide persoon - die weinig liefheeft. Herken jij jezelf hierin? Klopt deze beschrijving voor jou, al was het maar een klein beetje?
Luister opnieuw naar het tweede deel van de passage. Daar waar Jezus spreekt tot deze vrouw en tot Simon de farizeeër. Kan jij jezelf vinden in een van deze twee karakters? Met wie identificeer jij jezelf het meest?
Jezus legt hier een verband tussen vergeving en liefde. Tussen een hoop vergeving ontvangen en een hoop liefde geven. Wat vind jij? Heeft dit zin? Spreek nu tot Hem over dit verband: waar kan je dit zien in je eigen leven en waar niet? Wat voel je bij wat Hij zegt? Hoe zou je daarop willen ingaan?
